By the end of last week, Creighton University and its clinical partner, CHI Health, had administered a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine to approximately 1,400 health sciences students and faculty working in clinical health care settings.
The University hopes to have all health sciences clinical students and faculty vaccinated by the end of this week. Scheduled vaccinations are still planned for today (Monday, Jan. 25).
The vaccines are being distributed in accordance with the phased approach announced by the State of Nebraska and the Douglas County Health Department. Currently, Douglas County is in Phase 1A, which includes health care personnel. Phase 1B includes higher education faculty and support staff. Additional information will be provided to Creighton faculty and staff when the county advances to Phase 1B.
In accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations, Creighton community members receiving a COVID-19 vaccine will still need to practice social distancing, wear a face covering and follow other COVID-19 requirements. In addition, due to ongoing widespread community transmission, those Creighton community members who are vaccinated will still need to quarantine if they are in close contact with someone who has COVID-19 or has symptoms of COVID-19.
