Creighton University celebrated its move to the Highlander Accelerator with an open house on April 6. This community enrichment center is a part of the revitalization project occurring along 30th Street, between Hamilton and Lake streets in North Omaha, hosted by the community organization Seventy Five North.
“This is a monumental day for Creighton University and for our north Omaha neighbors,” Creighton President the Rev. Daniel S. Hendrickson, SJ said.
“Seventy-Five North’s mission to lead the revitalization of the Highlander neighborhood and beyond is noble and worthy, and Creighton is honored to be a partner.”
The purpose of Creighton University at Highlander is to support the community as a resource for facilitating and implementing community driven projects and programs. The vision is to foster the creation of health so each person can live a healthier, fuller life in a thriving Highlander community.
“We are committed to this community because we are neighbors, and neighbors acting neighborly is what the Gospel texts encourage us all to do,” Fr. Hendrickson said.

The space features individual meeting rooms and a collaborative commons area. The Financial Hope Collaborative and other programs are held in a classroom.
The Highlander community is based on the Purpose Built Communities model created after successful transformation of the East Lake neighborhood in Atlanta. This holistic model works to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty through mixed-income housing, cradle-to-college education, and community wellness.
