Kinnan Published in Journal of Psychiatric Services

SOM_Kinnan_ShannonShannon Kinnan, MD, assistant professor in the School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry, recently co-authored How a Health Center Eliminated the Waiting List for Psychiatric Services. The article is forthcoming in the December issue of Psychiatric Services, a journal of the American Psychiatric Association and is available online ahead of print.

The article is derived from Kinnan’s work at OneWorld Community Mental health Center in Omaha and how it gradually transitioned to a collaborative care model of psychiatric treatment. By year 3, most psychiatric treatment was provided directly by primary care providers with support from psychiatric consultants, and the 350 person waitlist was virtually eliminated.

Kinnan has been training Creighton psychiatric residents in the Collaborative Care Model and presented her work on implementation at a national training for psychiatric residencies in May 2019, at the American Psychiatric Association Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Read more.
