Lou Jensen, OTR/L, OTD, associate professor in occupational therapy, along with colleagues from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and the University of Nebraska- Kearney were awarded a grant from the American Heart Association to address the problem of lack of connection and follow up for stroked survivors in rural Nebraska that may result in social isolation and prevent community participation following discharge from stroke rehabilitation. The interdisciplinary team will create tele-teams connecting stroke survivors and caregivers with rehabilitation students from three university campuses using telehealth technology. The teleteams will explore perspectives and needs of those living with the effects of stroke in rural Nebraska, and learn together to 1) identify ways to minimize barriers and 2)empower community participation.
