The Department of Community and Preventive Dentistry was recently awarded a $100,000 grant from the board of directors of the Gary and Mary West Foundation to support the Geriatric Collaborative Care Project. This grant has doubled its support from 2018 and is now investing in programming directly.
“The West foundation has been so instrumental in championing our vision for educating the future workforce to care for the most vulnerable population,” stated Teryn Sedillo, DDS, associate professor in the department and fellow in special care and geriatrics. “We could not be more excited to have applied and received a second round of funding to further advance our training. This time, with much emphasis on the interprofessional collaborative practice approach to establish best practices in the ever evolving field of geriatric dentistry.”
With the direction of Kim McFarland, DDS, chair of Community and Preventive Dentistry and the support of senior director of corporate and foundation relations, Andy Kammerer, both helped to foster the partnership with the foundation. The Gary and Mary West Foundation develops partnerships with nonprofit organizations that collaboratively achieve high-impact outcomes and provide advocacy, education, and resources to support lowering the cost of healthcare and aging initiatives.
