SPAHP - Jewell_Vanessa-365-web_0Vanessa Jewell, PhD, OTR/L, vice-chair and assistant professor in the department of Occupational Therapy along with other professional colleagues, Rebecca Jessen, OTD, OTR/L and Hillary Richardson, MOT, OTR/L contributed to the AOTA Choosing Wisely, “#5. Don’t provide cognitive-based interventions (e.g., paper-and-pencil tasks, table-top tasks, cognitive training software) without direct application to occupational performance.”

Choosing Wisely is an initiative of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) that aims to promote meaningful conversations between practitioners and clients to ensure that appropriate and quality care is being provided. Specifically, the aims of this initiative are to ensure that interventions and assessments are supported by evidence, not duplicative of other tests or procedures already received, free from harm, and truly necessary.
