Fr. Carlson Presents on Valuable Book in Creighton Collection

Father Greg CarlsonThe Rev. Greg Carlson, SJ, gave an illustrated paper “What John Ogilby Did for Aesop” at the meeting of la Société Renardienne in Prague in July. Ogilby’s Aesop versions in the 1650s and 1660s were the first serious Aesop published for adults since William Caxton’s in the earliest years of printing almost 200 years earlier. Creighton has had a copy of Ogilby’s most elaborate and expensive Aesop since the 1950s. It is currently exhibited with other unusual books and objects from the Carlson Fable Collection in the Rare Books Room of Reinert Alumni Library.
