Hogan’s Article Published in Bulletin of the History of Medicine

andrew hoganAndrew Hogan, PhD, associate professor of History, recently published his article, “Moving Away from the ‘Medical Model’: The Development and Revision of the World Health Organization’s Classification of Disability,” in the Bulletin of the History of Medicine, the flagship journal of the American Association for the History of Medicine.

The article addresses the need in the history of medicine for a greater engagement with disability perspectives. Hogan examines the history of the World Health Organization’s International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) and argues that critiques of the so-called medical model have been an important vehicle by which alternative narratives of disability have entered the clinical arena.

Creighton undergraduates Gracie Holloran, Hana O’Hagan, Rachel Melchionna, Emily Newcomb and Mary Kate Wolken assisted with the research for this article.
