Miyamoto to Speak at PEERS

Takanari MiyamotoTakanari Miyamoto, DDS, PhD, MSD, MBA, associate professor of the Department of Periodontology and diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, was selected to speak at the 2019 PEERS NA meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina in July. Miyamoto will present work on, “Localized Piezo-surgical Decortication Enhanced Orthodontics Prior to Dental Implant Therapy: Evidence and Clinical Application”

Emerging evidence exists with regards to the innovative and minimally-invasive technique called “Piezocision”, a piezoelectric alveolar decortication approach which utilizes a tunneling flapless technique for the placement of freeze dried bone allograft.1 Murphy et al. described the surgical technique for the established clinical procedure, known as periodontally accelerated osteogenic orthodontics (PAOO)2. With PAOO, corticotomy-facilitated orthodontics was utilized with the addition of alveolar bone augmentation to the procedure. It has been reported that the use of PAOO would result in shorter treatment times, increased post-treatment stability, increased alveolar bone width, and decreased apical root resorption2. In this short presentation, evidence and clinical application of Localized Piezo-surgical Decortication Enhanced Orthodontics will be discussed for the purpose of comprehensive dental implant treatment Planning.
