Dr. Andrew Hogan, assistant professor in the Department of History, is one of five faculty members announced as a 2016 CURAS Summer Faculty Research Fellowship Recipient.
Dr. Hogan’s research focus is on clinical psychology, genetic counseling and pediatrics. His project, “Normalizing Intellectual Disability: Wolf Wolfensberger and the Postwar Medical Community,” looks at the adoption of new perspectives on intellectual disability in the medical community since 1970. Dr. Hogan will examine the papers of Wolfensberger, a clinical psychologist and disability advocate in Omaha during the 1960s.
Dr. Hogan says his goal is to better understand how the medical community responded to Wolfensberger’s alternative, more inclusive perspectives on intellectual disability in a period when institutionalization was still a common medical approach for managing individuals with intellectual disability.
